The National Guard is a part time service. It’s more than any other branch can offer. ![]() Because we’re able to get state funding as well, which is $10,000 per year for tuition. We actually have more education benefits than the other branches starting off. The other thing that makes us unique, and in many ways less traditional, is the fact that we’re state and federally funded, is that we get money from both. The beauty of that is we’re going to know a minimum of a year out when we get deployed if we do get deployed, and we do our job when we go. If needed, the president can ask the governor for permission to utilize us overseas. We do protect Texas first, and then we have a federal mission. What’s something that’s unique to the Texas Army National Guard, as opposed to the Army National Guard? So we handle floods and natural disasters, COVID relief and everything along those lines. We need everybody- that’s lawyers, doctors and mechanics, to obviously protecting and defending like infantry and such, but it’s actually a smaller margin than the rest of the jobsĪbout 72 percent of our forces are actually support element forces, especially in the National Guard, because our primary focus is to the state of Texas. We’ll go in the middle of anywhere and do everything ourselves. We have over 130 level entry positions, so they can really do anything that you can imagine in the civilian world, you can do in the National Guard. What do you say to someone who’s interested in joining the Texas National Guard? It’s the best way for us to actually talk to students and get to know them on a better level than just as a recruiter. We teach classes on everything from military science to military history, chemistry, gym class- you name it, we taught everything. I train, mentor and develop other recruiters in this region, to basically train new soldiers and recruit new soldiers, and the best way we found to do that is to meet students in the schools.
